My team and
I successfully developed the idea for this project and
pitched it to the Entertainment Technology Center faculty.
We spent our semester on two prototype experiences:
Retro Robot and the Augmented Reality Gaming Table.
Retro
Robot was a scavenger hunt in which players tried to
find virtual items in a real space. Networked laptops
were tracked via wi-fi triangulation, allowing players
to move in real space and in virtual space. Virtual
creatures interacted with the players as well.
The
Augmented Reality Gaming Table was a game playing platform
developed to take advantage of visual augmented reality.
A web cam took in live video of a play surface which
in turn was augmented and projected next to the play
surface. One game, the Augmented Wizard Duel (pictured
left), involved dice that represented spellcasting.
Players would throw dice, out of which virtual elements
would appear. The game would resolve each conflict until
one wizard was triumphant.
We published
a poster of the Augmented Reality Gaming Table in ARToolKit
Workshop 2003. I travelled to Tokyo, Japan in October
of 2003 to present the poster.
As
a Designer on this project, I...
- ...developed
the gameplay concepts.
- ...drafted
and revised the design documents.
- ...designed
the prototype player interfaces.
- ...laid
out and drew game maps.
- ...contributed
all of the visual art for both experiences.
As
the Producer for this project, I...
- ...spearheaded
playtesting.
- ...coordinated
and managed the team's efforts and resources.
- ...scheduled
and ran daily meetings.
- ...maintained
the group's website.
